Indigenous Mental Health Therapist, Doula, and Parenting Coach
Emery Assiniboine is a Registered Social Worker with a specialization in Clinical Counselling. She has received a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree in Indigenous Social Work from the First Nations University of Canada. In 2023, she completed Birth & Post-Partum Doula training through Doula Canada/Doula School. She has also attended the Jai Institute of Parent Coaching to become a certified Parenting Coach for individuals and families.
Her focus has been on maternal, matriarchal, and motherhood areas since the birth of her two children. She recognized that there was a gap between Indigenous and First Nation birthing people and mental health support through the various stages of prenatal, perinatal, and postnatal. She hopes to guide those that she works with the skills and tools necessary to navigate life, parenthood, and womanhood. She is dedicated to providing comprehensive mental health counselling, emotional wellness support, and parent coaching services for First Nations individuals and families. She is committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where individuals and families can embark on a journey towards healing and growth.
In the first appointment...
We work on history, and assessment, to determine goals and areas of treatment—the most important part – sharing space and determining if I am the right fit for you. There is zero pressure to book again, the important part is you took the chance and that is pretty damn brave. Emery's passion is reawakening your inner wisdom and guiding women, women-identifying, and mothers through the various stages of their motherhood and healing journeys.
The approach:
-Realizing your capacity and strengths & meeting you where you are at -Recognizing trauma and how to work with it -Embracing you and helping guide you to yourself -Practicing being in the moment :)
Who she works with:
Mothers/Persons in prenatal, labour and birth, and postnatal stages. She also works with new parents, adolescents(13 years +), young adults and adults.
Emery also offers programming and workshops designed to enhance the emotional well-being of First Nations families and communities. “The hope is to help reclaim the original parenting practices and spaces that were in place before colonization so that future generations have one less layer to peel back from the layers of trauma imposed on Indigenous and First Nation people for centuries.” - Emery
